Metal-vision of in-line and off-line quality-testing equipment for metallic printers

Illumination device tailored for metal printing, inspection algorithm (program) control system

Metal printing = Metal decorating, which prints on tin plates, differs from paper, which is white, easy to obtain ink tack, and excellent in printability, in terms of production technology, even in the same printing, such as the surface where metal appears or the white coating does not provide sufficient whiteness.
This is also true for quality inspection systems, where lighting systems and inspection algorithm (program) control schemes must be tailored for metal printing.

Characteristics of the Metal-vision

1. Lighting system
The lighting of the inspection equipment for metal printing differs greatly from that of paper.
Most metal prints are printed directly on a tinplate that has been subjected to sizing (by grinding the surface and aligning the lines). However, lighting devices used for paper printing are not stable at the sizing (diffuse reflection surface with roughly polished metal), and the white coating cannot perform good inspection.
Metal-vision develops special lights to cope with the phenomena peculiar to metallic prints, enabling highly accurate and stable inspections.
2. Inspection algorithm
Metal offset printing is characterized by high material costs and many of which are not one pass, but multiple passes through the press and each time dried in an oven.
For this reason, the unit price of products is very high at the stage of quality inspection. If the inspection equipment malfunctions here, products with high unit prices that could be shipped to customers will be removed, making it difficult to sort them in the post-process.
Metal-vision employs practical inspection algorithms that separate products that cannot be shipped to customers from products that can be shipped to customers but are used later for quality-control purposes, and provides inspection equipment that does not reduce productivity.
3. Customizing
What should be customized more than a paper print quality inspection device is a metal print inspection device.
Whether it is a food can, beverage can, or miscellaneous can, whether it is an internal coating is important, whether it is a character design is important, etc. Depending on the application of the product, what is a defect target depends on the presence or absence of post-process inspection.
Metal-vision will provide an inspection device that can be customized to work beneficially and that will always be useful.
